February 2008 – MAUI!!!

8 days and 7 nights in Wailea, Maui at the Four Seasons Hotel in the peak of Humpback Whale season – who could ask for more? Even with 11 hours of flying time it was an amazing place to spend an extended vacation with my best friend/wife Cindy, and two our our closest family friends, Jason and Julie. Thanks to the kindness of grandparents, the kids never knew what they were missing. Some biking, some hiking, some snorkeling, lots of poolside time, fruity drinks and great food made this a very memorable vacation. Kihei Cafe, Alexanders, Joe’s Bar and Grille, Sansei and Nick’s Seafood were easily our favorite places to eat in the Wailea area. The coolest thing about the trip (outside of being on vacation) was watching the whales surface daily from nearly any spot on the island. One of the biggest surprises of the trip was the enjoyment I got out of getting up at 4:30am, heading downstairs to grab some free Kona Coffee with a book and watching the island come alive slowly. I would follow this morning ritual up daily with Yoga on the Beach – something I would like to build into my weekly routine (sans beach of course) at home. At the end of the week Cindy and I were definitely ready to get back to our kids and the real world but the time off to simply relax was special for us both. Check out the pictures and keep an eye on Jason and Julie’s blog for additional pictures from their camera’s vantage point.
